LEGAL DIRECTORS STRATEGY MEETING (AMSTERDAM)
On 25 November 2015 the Legal Directors Strategy Meeting took place in Amsterdam.
Presentations and discussions went over various topics that relate to the daily life of company lawyers.
Amongst the panel leaders was Han Kooy (General Manager of ECLA) who dealt with the topic concerning the differences between company lawyers and external advisors as well as with the possibilities to create efficiencies and how to motivate legal staff. Interesting debates resulted in some conclusions on aspects as outsourcing ( with possible loss of jobs for company lawyers), the use of paralegals, document handling ( considered as a must but often difficult to implement), knowledge sharing ( also focused on the specifics of the company and its business segment). The exchange of views was considered very useful by the attendants.
In addition many contacts were made between providers and (possible) clients, on a one-to-one basis during table contacts.
On 31 March 2017 ECLA had its Annual General Assembly in Rome, where the national association AIGI acted as an excellent host. The agenda of the meeting contained its usual topics, such as the annual accounts, communication, etc. There was also an intensive discussion on the goals, aspirations and future of ECLA, for which the new President Jonathan Marsh earlier made an appeal to the national associations. The outcome of the discussions, which took place in workgroups, will form a solid basis for further discussions later in the year. Stephan Barthe (Spain) was elected as new secretary of the Executive Board. The topic of young lawyers in AIGI was presented by a young member of AIGI, followed by an interesting discussion.
